2010 TAKE OUR DAUGHTERS TO WORK DAY
Almost one hundred young women between the ages of 11 and 14 from Burnett Middle School in Union Township (NJ) participated in the Women’s Fund of New Jersey’s annual Take Our Daughters To Work Day program on Wednesday June 2, 2010. The day’s event was generously hosted by Kean University and sponsored by PNC Bank Foundation.
Take Our Daughters To Work Day engaged the young women in self-esteem building and empowerment activities. The girls also toured Kean University to gain exposure to higher education. WFNJ hopes that this experience will help the girls to become more self confident and to build relationships that will prepare them to assume leadership roles and improve their lives.
The day also included a panel discussion from some of NJ’s most prominent women. The panelists shared their personal and professional experiences and answered career questions from the girls. Honest and forthright about challenges and issues they confronted growing up, they were truly the glue that made this day come together. The women conveyed a message that the girls could really grasp and apply to their personal situations.

THE WOMEN’S POLICY INSTITUTE OF THE WOMEN’S FUND OF NEW JERSEY HOSTS INAUGURAL WOMEN’S HEALTH SYMPOSIUM
What is Reproductive Justice??? According to the RJ movement it is the assertion that
Every woman has the human right to:
1. Decide if and when she will have a baby and the conditions under which she will give birth
2. Decide if she will not have a baby and her options for preventing or ending a pregnancy
3. Parent the children she already has with the necessary social supports in safe environments and healthy communities, and without fear of violence from individuals or the government
On June 1st, 2010 more than 40 women came together at the Women’s Policy Institute’s inaugural symposium addressing reproductive justice, reproductive health and the intersection of issues surrounding reproductive cancers. The symposium, generously hosted by Thomas Edison State College in Trenton, NJ featured a Reproductive Justice public policy training session, facilitated by the nation’s leading multicultural reproductive justice organization.
Guests were enjoyed a comprehensive workshop facilitated by the SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Health Collective, formed in 1997 to educate women of color and policy makers on reproductive and sexual health and rights, and to work towards the access of health services, information and resources that are culturally and linguistically appropriate. The training was facilitated by Loretta Ross and Serena Garcia of SisterSong.
It was a day where powerful women came together and supported the health of women and girls of New Jersey.
